About Me

My name is David Collins. I am a primary school teacher for the past 12 years. In 2020, I founded The Fundamentals, which engages primary and secondary school students in active and engaging workshops that focus on personal development, leadership, team development and goal setting.

I am a firm believer of Peter Block’s idea of ‘Connection before Content’, that ‘without relatedness, no work can occur’. Workshops push students outside their comfort zones, to communicate and collaborate with their peers while participating in a series of individual and group activities.

I believe that the small things really do matter and that early introduction to skills that enable opportunity, build resilience and encourage teamwork are life enhancing and immeasurably improve the likelihood of happy, fulfilling lives.

My programmes are practical, grounded in real life educational and development experiences through my own teaching career and have been proven in schools around Ireland.

As well as my primary school experience, I hold a Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management from UCD Professional Academy. I’ve had a management role as Assistant Principal and have also experience of leadership and management roles from sporting environments, particularly with teenagers and young adults.  I am currently studying a Masters in Sports and Exercise Psychology in Setanta College. I have developed a passionate interest in leadership and teamwork, the culture that underpins them and how in particular they impact young people as they face educational and career challenges and ambitions.
